Ford has a long tradition of building powerful and outrageous versions of the F-150 pick-up. From the track inspired SVT Lightning to desert racers, the performance division has repeatedly stretched the boundaries of what a pick-up truck can be. The Raptor R is arguably the most extreme interpretation, but also proved to be a surprisingly versatile daily driver.
From the moment Ford’s Special Vehicle Team launched the F-150 SVT Raptor in 2010, the model became a cult hero. That reputation stemmed from its indestructible character, thanks to Fox dampers with external reservoirs, enormous suspension travel and of course the Boss 6.2 V8 producing 411 hp and 434 lb-ft (588 Nm) of torque. That V8, derived from the Super Duty F-Series, was optional because Ford also offered a base Raptor with the 5.4-litre Triton V8 delivering 320 hp and 390 lb-ft (529 Nm) on E85. The latter proved unpopular, prompting Ford to drop it after just one model year.
